An Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court of Lagos state, on Friday, May 6, sentenced a 22-year-old housekeeper, Kennedy George, to five years imprisonment for stealing his employers jewelery and cash worth N9 million.
George, who resides with his employer, was first arraigned on June 19, 2015, before the court, on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The convict had pleaded not guilty to the charge, was admitted to bail in the sum of N250, 000 with the two sureties in like sum.
However, during trial, the prosecutor, Corporal Cyriacus Osuji called two witnesses.
At the trial, Osuji informed the court that George and others now at large committed the offences between February 6, 2015 to June 2015, at about 10:00am, at 3A, Iron Bar Street Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
He also informed the court that the convict stole a cash sum of N300, 000 and assorted gold jewellery worth N6 million, properties of one Uzo Nwogu.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 285 (7) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
The convict during the trial admitted stealing his boss’s ATM card to withdraw some of the money but said he was not the only one that spent the money.

Delivering judgment in the case, the presiding magistrate, Mrs A. T. Omoyele, discharged and acquitted the convict of count one, while she pronounced him guilty of count two and three.
Consequently, the presiding magistrate sentenced him to a jail term of two and a half years each in counts two and three, making it five years imprisonment without an option of fine.
The magistrate however ordered that the terms of sentence are to run concurrently.
