– Finance minister, Kemi Adeosun, has disowned the Twitter handle @Mrskemiadeosun
– The minister had come under attack after the Twitter account posted a comment saying recession is just a word
– A cross-section of Nigerians are criticizing her for denying the Twitter handle
Kemi Adeosun, Nigeria’s minister of finance on Thursday, September 1, denied ownership of the Twitter handle that posted controversial updates about Nigeria’s economic recession.
The National Bureau of Statistics had announced on Wednesday, August 31, that Nigeria’s economy contracted by 2.06% in the second quarter. The figures released showed that Nigeria had officially gone into recession.
Adeosun appeared in the Nigerian Senate two months ago telling senators that Nigeria was ”technically in recession”
Shortly after, the account, @Mrskemiadeosun, believed to be that of the minister, posted a series of tweets, playing down the significance of a recession.
One of the tweets read: “The strongest of all warriors are these two, time and patience. I know people are concerned about the recession. Recession is a word.”
Kemi has however, disowned the Twitter handle @Mrskemiadeosun, saying she is not on the micro-blogging platform.

However, the tweet was deleted later, after some Nigerians came down hard on the minister for being insensitive. The opposition People Democratic Party described the comment as highly insensitive and out of line.
Not only was the tweet deleted, the account changed its bio to say ‘parody’.
Kemi Adeosun’s (@Mrskemiadeosun) account has evolved in the past 9hrs. 😂😂

Not long after, a video surfaced showing Kemi saying “recession is a word” and some Nigerians are asking if the video is also fake.
The minister has also come under harsh criticisms for disowning the Twitter account.
@d_problemsolver yes…the handles are fake. What about the video showing Kemi Adeosun saying “recession is just a word”? Also fake? Issoke.

Kemi Adeosun’s ‘Media Volunteers’ have simply dug her into a narrow ditch. Next time they should learn to appoint competent aides.

Integrity has never been a strong suit for Nigerian politicians. Kemi Adeosun is an embarrassment. This one can embezzle money.

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun is as dumb as her master. Imagine saying ‘recession’ is just a word when people are dying of hunger.
