Singer Robin Thicke & producer Pharrell Williams have been taken to court by the estate of Marvin Gaye over summer hit single, Blurred Lines.
The pair, who worked together on the 2013 hit, filed a lawsuit earlier this year upon receiving accusations from Gaye’s family that parts of Got to Give It Up had been copied.
Gaye’s family responded with a countersuit, and on Thursday, U.S. District Judge John Kronstadt denied Thicke and Williams’ motion for summary judgment.
His ruling found similarities between the bass lines, keyboard parts, vocal lines, melodies, and harmonies of the two songs, meaning there is enough evidence to move forward with the Gaye family’s claim.
A trial is scheduled to take place on Feb. 10, 2015.
