Barcelona have confirmed that Tomas Vermaelen is set to miss up to six months of action due to injury.
Thomas Vermaelen made his 15 million euro move from Arsenal to Barcelona and is still yet to play a competitive game for the club. Vermaelen who has a documented history of injury problems was set to make his debut for the Catalan club against APOEL in the UEFA champions league but the Belgian pulled a muscle in training and it was later revealed that the former Arsenal man would require surgery before he can return to action. Barcelona have stated that Vermaelen is facing up to 6 months out. “Thomas Vermaelen will undergo surgery on his right semitendinosus muscle by doctor Sakari Orava next Tuesday in Finland,” read a club statement released on Thursday evening. “The estimated recovery time is four to six months.”
This would be a frustrating period for both Vermaelen and Barcelona who would have to wait till next season for the Belgian to done the famous jersey of Barcelona.
