The chairman of the committee on public account for local government of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Bisi Yusuff, has demanded the immediate resignation of the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Oyegun, for losing his polling unit to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the governorship election in Edo state.
Hon Bisi Yusuff says Oyegun not fit to be APC national chairman
Oyegun, who voted at Oredo ward 2, unit 1, but the returning officer of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that the APC scored 69 votes, while the PDP scored 78 votes.
It is widely known that Oyegun, who once governed the state, has never won his polling unit since becoming the chairman of the party that won the 2015 general election and produced Muhammadu Bubari as Nigeria’s president.

Yusuff said it was not good enough to hear that the national chairman of the ruling party in Nigeria could not win his unit in a governorship election even when he once governed the state.
According to Yusuff, who represents Alimosho constituency 1, Oyegun no longer has “any moral justification to remain as the national chairman and as a result he should immediately resign.
“You can imagine that this same chairman who could not win in his won polling unit, corrupted the process of choosing a candidate for the party in Ondo state.

“Sincerely, if you ask me, I can tell you that he is not fit to occupy the position,” the lawmaker said.
In the last few days, Oyegun had been hit by top politicians including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the APC, as well as former vice president of the country, Atiku Abubakar.
Tinubu’s grouse was that Oyegun allegedly flouted some the decision of a panel concerning the emergence of Rotimi Akeredolu as the candidate of the party for the governorship election in Ondo state.
He demanded the resignation of the chairman.
