The State Police Command in Lagos said that it has disposed enough policemen to give satisfactory security during Wednesday’s National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, (APC).
About 5,000 police officers are expected to be drafted within and around the Lagos metropolis.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also said it would distribute over 100 officers and 15 patrol vehicles for APC Convention.
The convention, billed for Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, will choose the APC presidential aspirant for the 2015 election.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ngozi Braide, ”we have enough men on ground who are adequately kitted for the primary.
“We know the responsibility for the process to be credible is rested on us and we are aware of it.
“We are willing, as usual, to discharge that responsibility to the best of our ability just like we have been doing in all other elections.
“We know tomorrow’s election will be a bigger one and we expect more people to come into the state,’’ Braide said.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, was around yesterday to see things for himself and he will be moving around today to monitor the situation again.
“Arrangements have been put in place like traffic control, security, surveillance, sniffer dogs and every other thing needed to ensure a hitch-free convention.
“We are deploying our full arsenal to make sure that the election is credible,” she added.
Chibuzo Mefor, Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command of NSCDC also said the corps had deployed 500 officers to cooperate with the police to produce security.
He said the policemen were already on ground from Tuesday and would keep vigil at the venue ahead of the convention.
Also Lagos State Government has said that it will partially close Funsho/William/ Western Avenue Roads, in Surulere axis of the state so as to control traffic during the National Convention of the APC.
The main aspirants for the APC presidential primaries are ex-Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and former military head of state, Gen, Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
Other candidates are the Governor of Kano State Rabiu Kwakwanso; the Publisher of Leadership Newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha.
