Hip-hop record exec Suge Knight was behind the wheel of a car that fatally ran over a pal and then fled the scene of a film shoot in Compton, Calif., Thursday, reports said.
Knight had gotten into an argument on the set — where Ice Cube and Dr. Dre were filming a biopic for their seminal rap group N.W.A. — and he quickly backed up, slamming into two people at about 3 p.m., according to TMZ.
Terry Carter, a friend of Knight who works as a music producer, was fatally injured.
A second victim, filmmaker and actor Cle Shaheed Sloan, suffered minor injuries.
The crash took place after a verbal dispute in a burger restaurant, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The hit-and-run was being investigated as a homicide and not a traffic accident, authorities told the LA Times.
Knight’s lawyer, James Blatt, admitted that Knight fatally struck Carter.
Blatt confirmed that Knight was behind the wheel and said that his client had been attacked by two people before trying to escape in the car.
He also said that Knight — who was shot six times last summer — plans to turn himself over to police.
Knight co-founded Death Row Records with Dr. Dre in 1991.
