– Only 17 foreigners have been allowed to be registered by a club for the competiton
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has selected Kelechi Iheanacho for this season’s Champions League while Yaya Toure was left out.
Yaya Toure left out of City’s Champions league squad
The reason being that a team can only afford to play 17 foreign players in the competition and despite letting four foreigners leave before the transfer deadline, Toure became the odd man out.
The 17 overseas players Guardiola has chosen include new signings Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan, who are yet to play for the club, skipper Vincent Kompany, who is recovering from groin and thigh operations which kept him out of Euro 2016, and 19-year-old forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

This means that the 33-year-old will miss City’s matches against Borussia Mochengladbach, Celtic and Barcelona but can make a return as clubs are allowed to change three players after the grpup stage.
The Cote d’Ivoire captain has been instrumental to all City’s trophy wins since moving from Barcelona for £24million in 2010 which was then managed by Guardiola.
The former Barcelona player has only played once this season for the Manchester club which was in the second leg Champions League play-off game against Steau Bucharest.
The former Monaco midfielder was rumoured to be on his way out of Etihad to Serie A side Inter Milan following the arrival of the Spaniard from Bayern Munich.
