Ryan Calhoun, 23 and Delonte Martistee, 22 , (pictured above) two Troy University students, are facing charges of sexual battery after allegedly sexually assaulting an incapacitated woman at a Panama City, Florida beach during the spring break.
The Police claim that hundreds of people were witnesses of the assault. They also claim that there is an appalling phone footage as proof. Martistee and Calhoun are now being charged with sexual battery by multiple perpetrators. More arrests will be conducted, promised the police. Both boys have already been suspended from Troy University.
This is what Troy University released in an official statement:
“The students have been placed on temporary suspension from school per the University’s Standards of Conduct and disciplinary procedures. Martistee, a member of the track and field team, has also been removed from the team.”
As reported, the video shows multiple men surrounding the victim. She was lying motionless on a beach chair. A while later, she related to the police that she believed she had been drugged.
The Sheriff, Frank McKeithen related that the video was “very, very graphic” and called it “the most disgusting, sickening thing” he had ever seen.
“This is happening in broad daylight with hundreds of people seeing and hearing what is happening, and they are more concerned about spilling their beer than somebody being raped,” McKeithen stated.
A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office Ruth Corley said a portion of the video not revealing the sexual assault was released “to show the crowd that was surrounding the incident and to show people, not only was it a horrible event, but it was witnessed by so many people who did absolutely nothing to stop or call police.”
This is really sick! Do you think the people who stood by and did nothing should be arrested as well?
