The long awaited fight between WBC and WBA welterweight champion, Floyd ‘money’ Mayweather and WBO champion, Manny ‘PAC man’ Pacquiao might just set another record. It’ll definitely set a record.
The fight that has been in the works for five years now and is set to hold at the MGM grand arena in Las Vegas on 2nd May. It is set to be the most expensive pay-per-view boxing match in UK and USA history.
In the UK, Sky Sports Box Office have been awarded the rights to air the boxing bout and the channel is set to charge customers as high as £24.95 depending on how it is booked. According to my calculations, that’s roughly 7500 in Naira.
Customers were charged £14.95 to watch Mayweather fight Ricky Hatton in 2007.
In America, Showtime and HBO are prepping to charge customers a whooping $99.95 to watch the bout. This roughly equals £65 and 19,890 in Naira. All this money just to watch two grown men beat themselves to a pulp? Amazing.
It’s all about bragging rights though, as both men are perceived as the best boxers in this age. Mayweather has 47 fights and 47 wins while Pacquiao has 57 wins and 5 losses from 64 contests.
Both their titles will be opn the line come 2nd of May. May the best dancer win. I must add.
