Transfer Clock: 40 days until the transfer window closes, here are the key breaking developments you need to know…
Remy to Liverpool imminent
Loic Remy will become Liverpool’s fifth summer signing after jetting out to the US for a medical. The Mail report that the French international has agreed personal terms and his signing could be announced ahead of the club’s pre-season friendly with Roma in the early hours of Thursday.
Newcastle want Serge Gnabry
Arsenal face an interesting decision regarding breakthrough youngster Serge Gnabry, with The Mirror, reporting Newcastle want to sign the teenager on loan. With Theo Walcott returning from injury, and Joel Campbell pushing for a place in the squad, Gnabry could find his chances limited at the Gunners in terms of regular football. Newcastle yesterday loaned out right winger Sylvain Marveaux to Guingamp for the season, creating a potential gap in their squad for Arsenal’s German youth international. Southampton and Sunderland have also reportedly made contact with the Gunners about bringing him in for the season.
Stoke seal Bojan deal
Stoke City have secured the surprise signing of once promising Barcelona prospect Bojan Krkic. The 23-year-old has 41 goals for the Spanish giants to his name but fell out of favour after Pep Guardiola departed. He spent last season on loan with Ajax, and joins defender Marc Muniesa who moved to Mark Hughes’ side last summer.
Celtic unhappy with Southampton
Celtic are unhappy criticised Southampton’s offer for goalkeeper Fraser Forster. The Mail write that the Saints bid only £4 million for the England international, and Celtic want at least double that. The two clubs did business last summer with Victor Wanyama leaving the SPL champions for Southampton.
Manchester United boast
Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward has once again been boasting about the club’s transfer funds. Speaking in LA, he was quizzed by reporters whether the club could afford the type of fee Real Madrid have paid out for James Rodriguez.
He responded, reported by the Manchester Evening News: “Of course it’s in our capabilities (to spend £60m or £70m on a player)…There is no budget. We are in a very strong financial position. We can make big signings. That doesn’t mean we go and throw money around.
“The reality is that we’re not afraid of spending significant amounts of money in the transfer market.”
