There has been a lot of fanfare about Manchester United’s signing of Marcos Rojo for 20 million euros with Nani joining Sporting Lisbon on a season long LOAN.
The big question is What does Rojo bring? A world cup finalist with title challenge experience from Lisbon, Marcos Rojo is a tough tackling attack minded defender. Manchester United play a three man defence system under Van Gaal with two wing backs.Rojo for all his attacking drive cannot function very well as a wing back. He can’t out cross a fit Luke Shaw or out run Ashley Young and in his formative years, he played as a left full back and he is inadequately equipped to deal with the aerial rigors of the premier league. Rojo’s positioning playing as a center back is subject to question. That being said. It must be well documented that Rojo’s ability as a left sided defender in the three man defence would be excellent but what Manchester United need now is a defensive leader and organizer.
Van Gaal’s ability to SPIN ordinary threads into gold should not be taken lightly , form Ron Vlaar to Bruno Martins Indi and De Vrij, Van Gaal has an ability to turn Average to great just as he did at AZ Alkhmar and at the world cup
But looking soley at the player, Rojo is bringin little to Manchester United
