As the people await the verdict of the panel investigating the Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, and his Deputy Bala Ngilari, an aide to Nyako has justified his principal decision to shun the panel.
Ahmed Lawal, the Principal Special Assistant to Nyako on MDGs, described the panel as illegal, saying honouring the invitation amounted to supporting illegality.
Lawal, in an interview said, “If the governor and his deputy attended the panel, it shows they have agreed with the panel. So, the entire issue is illegal, and what do you expect them to go there to do?
“If there is legality in setting up the panel, I believe the governor and his deputy will go to the panel. If you look at the invitation that was sent to the governor and his deputy, the panel gave the address of the venue for the sitting as Army Barracks Road, Gibson Jalo Street, the next day, the panel (members)said they were sitting at the Federal Secretariat, Yola. That shows even the panel does not know what it is doing.”
On what he expected from the panel report, Lawal said, “I don’t expect any good thing from the panel, because its formation was illegal, unless we are going to show the whole world that Nigeria is a lawless country.”
He noted that the people were expecting them to do justice to the allegations raised against Nyako and Ngilari, maintaining that the people of Adamawa and the entire world were watching the panel.
“You cannot sit down in your room and write a report without hearing from both parties, if you are going to be fair in your judgment,” he added.
