– The Calabar-Port Harcourt Coastal rail line and the Lagos-Kano rail project will be completed by the the end of 2018
– The rail which will be built in line with international standards, is expected to be even better than the Abuja-Kaduna rail line
Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, has assured Nigerians of speedy completion of the Calabar-Port Harcourt Coastal rail line and the Lagos-Kano rail modernisation project.
The minister announced the news while sigining the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project with a Chinese company, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation Ltd. (CECC) on Wednesday in Abuja.

“I am told that before November, we can commence the Lagos-Ibadan construction. So, we can begin to count for CCECC in the case of Lagos-Ibadan from November, hoping that in November 2018, you should have finished work.”
The federal government is also planning to recieve a counterpart fund for the project which is expected to cost up to 3.4 billion dollars.
Jack Li, the managing director of CCECC, explained that the Calabar-Port Harcourt Coastal rail line would be built in accordance with international standards and could even outperform the Abuja-Kaduna rail line.

He expressed hope that the project would benefit all Nigerians: “I want to give my commitment and assure you that on completion, the rail line will be as good as, or even better than the completed Abuja-Kaduna rail line.”
