So who will be the next female to fall victim to the infamous sex tape? Well, it seems that Australian born Iggy Azalea’s name has come up on the list. Allegedly, a sex tape has conveniently ended up in the hands of porn company Vivid Entertainment, and this week, it’s the I-G-G-Y who is reportedly on it. Of her 99 problems, this must be number one.
According to the most recent post on TMZ (this is probably going to change and be updated with every little detail at least three times a day), Iggy’s team now acknowledges that it could indeed be her in the video. Let’s backtrack for a minute. When news of the tape first broke, Iggy’s team (ahem, lawyers) denied that it she was in the video. Then, in what felt like just ten seconds later, they said it could be her, but she was under 18. Sigh.
True, if it really is her and she doesn’t want the tape to be released, then it’s likely that her legal team is going to try to pull out all the tricks to stop Vivid from dropping this tape. So Iggy’s first response has to be, like Shaggy once said, “hey, it wasn’t me.” And that’s just what Iggy tweeted initially. “I don’t have a sex tape but for the record… Anyone who releases or attempts to make profit off someone else’s intimate moments against their will is a sex offender,” she said. But not even a day later, lawyers said it may actually be her (because it probably is her), but now they are going with this under 18 story. Hopefully for Iggy, this works, because a sex tape doesn’t seem to fall in line with her music plans. And then of course, there is the chance that she actually was under 18 in the video, in which case, it would be a big no-no for Vivid to release.
Porn company Vivid Entertainment is no stranger to the celebrity sex tape scandal. It is mostly known for distributing the Kim Kardashian and Ray J tape, and more recently, it was the company that somehow got its hands on the Mimi and Nikko (of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta) tape. It goes a little something like this: Vivid mysteriously gets their hands on the footage (which many people believe one of the parties leaks it to them) and then they basically leave that celebrity no other option but to cut a deal with them for its release. You would think that a company as big as Vivid would not be able to gangster the situation that way, but yes, it’s that easy. And by the way, if she was under 18 when this tape was made…nevermind.
In the case of Iggy’s tape, lawyers say they believe it’s her ex who is trying to “damage her image and career out of revenge.” Iggy is now dating NBA star Nick Young, who sources say “he hates it on so many levels….he feels terrible for Iggy and what it would do to her career.”
And though Vivid says they’ve got a seven-figure payday waiting for her, Iggy’s team doesn’t seem to be biting. Maybe Iggy will dare to fight this one, which hopefully will change the company’s stronghold on celebrities (unless of course, they really do want these sex tapes out). Still, for Iggy, it probably isn’t in her best interest. If you’ve noticed, though the rapper has never seemed to have much shame about her sex appeal, her image has definitely been cleaned up as of late. (Nevermind that she originally signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle and was known in hip-hop for a raunchier lyricism before her big mainstream break). These days, she’s being teamed up with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Lopez, and is hitting #1 on Billboard charts. Musically, she’s shown that she has serious crossover potential and a sex tape could negatively affect that schoolgirl innocence (**blank stare**) that her label seems to be capitalizing off of. A sex tape being released will not be so fancy for her.
