Twenty four aspirants have been duly certified to participate in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ondo gubernatorial primary election scheduled to take place today, September 3 in Akure, Ondo capital city.
Today’s election comes after the party had witnessed postponement of its primary in the state twice.
Speaking during the party’s inauguration, the APC national organising secretary Osita Izunaso inaugurating the five-man primary election committee led by Muhammadu Abubakar charged the team to ensure a free and fair election, in line with the Electoral Act.
Accepting leadership of the committee, Abubakar said, international passport, national identity cards or permanent voters’ cards would be used a means of identification in the election.

Abubakar said: “Any one of the three will be able to solve the identification problem.”
Among the aspirants qualified in the tussle for the flag bearer for the party in the state include: the former president of the Nigeria Bar Association, Rotimi Akeredolu, Abraham Michael Olusegun – APC leader, Bola Tinubu’s “preferred candidate”; Olusola Oke, Tunji Abayomi, Professor Robert Ajayi Boroffice, Olabode Mathew Ayorinde, Victor Olabimtan, and Akinyelure Ayo.
Others are: Alasoadura Omotayo, Awodeyi-Akinsehinwa Akintola, Ekungba Afolabi, Oyewumi Taiwo, Anifowoshe Jumoke and Ariyomo Olatunji.
Niran-Oladunni Moyosola, Adegbonmire Adeniyi (SAN), Adegoroye Ademola, Adesida-Abiodun Aderin, Adetula Olubukola, Adefemi Mayowa, Akingbade Akinwale, Akinola Akinyinka, Akinrinsola Odumayo and Akintelure Paul.
The opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently conducted it own gubernatorial primary elections for the state.
The two factions of the PDP, carried out their elections on different dates with billionaire businessman Jimoh Ibrahim emerging Ondo state gubernatorial candidate for the Ali Modu-Sheriff led PDP.
